Obituary for Allen Bowen

Mr. Allen Bowen of Tuckerman, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday, March 14, 2021, at the age of 74. He was born June 9, 1946, in Grubbs, the son of Cecil C. and Clara May (Woodard) Bowen.

Allen was a 1964 graduate of Tuckerman High School, and attended Arkansas State University.

He married Miss Sandra Ballard on August 27, 1966. Together they made their home in Tuckerman, raised two daughters, delighted in their two grandsons, and were eagerly awaiting the arrival of their first great-grandson.

Allen was a United States Army veteran, serving in Vietnam where he earned a Purple Heart and two Bronze Service Stars. Allen was a lifetime member of VFW and the DAV.

He retired from Greenway Equipment after 45 years of service. During Allen’s time at Greenway, he worked as a salesman, parts manager, and store manager.

He was active in his community, serving on the Rural Water Association. Allen also dedicated nine years of service on the Tuckerman School Board and served on the Jackson County School Board for several years.

Allen was a man of great character, always honest and hard-working. He never met a stranger. He was a true family man, his family described him as a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, and brother. Allen especially enjoyed being Poppaaw to his two grandsons whom he delighted in teaching to hunt and fish.

Allen will forever be remembered as a devoted family man, and a beloved husband, father, Poppaw, and brother.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Oneal and Billy John Bowen; one sister, Betty Lackey; and his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra (Ballard) Bowen of the home; two daughters, Dana Bowen of Tuckerman, and Deanna “DeeDee” Stapleton and husband, Scott, of Tuckerman; three brothers, Sammy Bowen of Swifton, Kenny Bowen of Weiner, and Paul Whitlock of Melbourne; two sisters, Wanda Jackson of Newport, and Sharon Bowen of Paragould; two grandsons, Garrett Montgomery and wife, Abby, and Bryce Bowen; one great-grandson on the way, Joseph Montgomery; several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly; and a lifetime of friends.

Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Friday at Gracelawn Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Garrett Montgomery, Bryce Bowen, Sam Nicholson, Colt Rothe, Scott Stapleton, and Ron Goff. Honorary pallbearers are his brothers, Sammy Bowen, Kenny Bowen, and Paul Whitlock, as well as Eladio Cenobio and family.
