Obituary for Benny D. Barber

Mr. Benny Dale Barber of Newark, Arkansas, departed this life on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at the age of 83. He was born December 13, 1937 in Newark, the son of Willie Amos and Rosa Etta (Marshall) Barber.
Mr. Barber was a graduate of Newark High School, and attended Harding and Arkansas College. He married Miss Judy Robinson on November 22, 1972, and together they spent 48 years. Over the course of those years, he and Judy raised their own children, and opened their home to foster many more.
Mr. Barber was a Phoenix, Arizona police officer for 24 years. He retired in 1983, at which time he came home to Newark and proceeded to work for the Independence County Sheriff’s Department for 14 years. He took great pride in his career as a police officer.
Mr. Barber was an active member of North Heights Church of Christ.
Mr. Barber enjoyed watching the Razorbacks and Fox News. He had a great sense of humor, and a kind, selfless heart. Mr. Barber’s greatest joy in life came from working with children, he considered it his true calling.
Mr. Barber was preceded in death by one brother, Marshall Barber; seven sisters, Emma Gene Freeman, Eula Ingram, Mary Etta Davis, Willie Mae Dyles, Madie Bridgeman, Eloise Alford, and Blanche Rainwater; and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Judy (Robinson) Barber of the home; five sons, Doug Barber of Tucson, Arizona, Alan Barber and wife, Jacque of Phoenix, Arizona; Sean Barber of Saltillo, Arkansas; Joshua Robinson and wife, Jamie, of Olive Branch, Mississippi, and Adam Barber of Newark; four daughters, Lori Tatum and husband, Clark, of Phoenix, Arizona, Liz Barber of Phoenix, Arizona, Meagan Spinks and husband, Hulan of Locust Grove, Arkansas, and Suki Nhan and husband, Tony, of Kansas City, Kansas; one brother, Amos Barber of Phoenix, Arizona; one sister, Nina Wester; seventeen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of friends.
Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at North Heights Church of Christ, with interment in Blue Springs Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church Tuesday, 1:00 p.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, the Barber family requests memorials be made to the Paragould Children’s Home, 5515 Walcott Road, Paragould, AR 72450.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Adam Barber, Braxton Barber, Taylor Pagel, Khai Nhan, Mason Robinson, Colt Teague, Billy Davis, and Chris Davis. Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Tatum, and members of the Foundation of Retired Police Officers of Phoenix, Arizona.
