Obituary for Charlene Altom

Mrs. Johnnie Charlene (Wymer) Altom of Campbell Station, Arkansas, was called to her forever home on Friday December 11, 2020 at the age of 77, in Batesville. She was born March 10, 1943 in Grubbs, Arkansas the daughter of Chester E. and Odean (Moore) Wymer.
Mrs. Altom enjoyed playing cards, going to bingo and trips to Tunica. She especially loved just being “Nanny”. She graduated from Grubbs High School just before the school burned and never received her written diploma. In 1980 she got a degree in business management. She thought it was funny telling that she and her daughter graduated the same year. She was a hard worker, picked cotton as a child, and worked at the Augusta shoe factory, for several years. In 1981, she went to work for the City of Newport and in, 1992, was promoted to Municipal District Court Clerk. After 21 years of service, she retired in 2002.
Mrs. Altom was proceeded in death by her parents; her grandparents Omer “Chick” and Vina (Brewer) Wymer; one son David Wayne Altom; two sisters Chestene Henderson and Wilma Thornton.
Mrs. Altom is survived by her husband, of 60 years, Jimmy Carl “Buddy” Altom, of Campbell Station; one daughter Carla Mae (Altom) Sutton and husband Jeff, of Tuckerman; a special first grandchild, James Bryson Altom and wife Carrie, of Diaz; Jeffery “Booter” Sutton and friend J.T. Lacy, of North Little Rock; one granddaughter Magan Deshae Herring; four great grandchildren Zackary Long, of Texas, Audrey Grace Altom, of Diaz, Justyce-Mae Sutton and Samuel Bryce Sutton, of Tuckerman. She also leaves behind her siblings two brothers Troy Wymer (Linda) of Jacksonville and Chester Ray Wymer (Ellen) of Searcy. Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will hold a private service.
