Joel E. Anderson

Little Rock, AR. It hit me hard when I saw Donald Joe's obituary in this morning's newspaper!. He and I (and Marvin Ross) grew up together in a three-family neighborhood by Village Creek on State 226 two miles or so from Swifton. We rode bicycles, fished together, picked cotton, roamed the fields with our bows and arrows and BB guns, and we played basketball, each of us having a goal post in our back yards. Donald Joe and I were only 10 days apart in age, both thin and the same height. But he had longer arms which gave him an advantage in re-bounding. I have rarely seen him since high school graduation and last saw him at Virgie's funeral, but what a flood of memories has surged today after reading his obituary. He was a major and cherished part of my growing-up years. I extend sympathy and condolences, and I very much regret that Covid precautions will prevent my being present Tuesday to pay my respects to my friend Donald Joe and to meet his family.
