Dorothy Ray  Sherman
Mrs. Dorothy Mae Ray Sherman of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the age of 97. She was born January 19, 1923 in Amagon, Arkansas, the daughter of Earl and Ivie Cummings.
Mrs. Sherman worked at Leader Department Store for 20 years, and KFC 7 years. she was a member of the Newport Pentecostal Church of God, where she was an active member of the Women’s Group.
She enjoyed reading, cooking, and taking care of her kids.
Mrs. Sherman was known for her dumplings. Her fellow church members would pay her for her dumplings. She would immediately donate her payment back to her church.
Mrs. Sherman was preceded in death by her first husband, James Nathan Ray; her second husband, David Sherman; two sons, Danny Ray and Ernest Crawford; one daughter, Rosetta Ricker; one son-in-law, Anthony Patterson; two brothers, Herbert Roberts and Dick Roberts; and her parents.
She is survived by three sons, Donald Crawford and wife, Lorita, of Newport, James Ray and wife, Lucinda, of Tuckerman, and David Ray of Memphis, Tennessee; two daughters, Shirley Patterson of Newport, and Betty Wagster of Berryville; sixteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit Saturday, 12:30 p.m. until service time. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery.
Due to COVID-19 mandates, masks are required for entrance to all visitation and funeral services. Please also maintain social distancing.
