Obituary for Elwanda Smith

Elwanda  Smith
Mrs. Elwanda (Westerfield) Smith of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at the age of 85. She was born June 3, 1937 in Tuckerman, the daughter of Coy Franklin and Margie Matilda (Wagner) Westerfield.
Mrs. Smith was a Licensed Practical Nurse, earning her certification in 1979. She worked as an LPN at Harris Hospital, retiring there following 20 years of service. She was a devoted nurse, who loved caring for people.
Mrs. Smith enjoyed hunting, sewing, gardening, and raising flowers. She loved cooking for and spending time with her family. Mrs. Smith was an avid collector of turtles.
She was a member of Arbanna Baptist Church, and Lakeside Missionary Baptist Church. She loved volunteering at church camp, and singing specials.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe Smith; two grandsons, Danny Solomon, II, and Kevin Solomon; one great-grandchild, Ethan Arron Martin; one brother, T.C. Westerfield; one sister, Billie Jean Smith; one daughter-in-law, Martha Smith; and her parents.
She is survived by three sons, Bill Joe Smith, Jr., and wife, Sharri of Newport, Ralph Scott Smith and wife, Kathy, of Newport, and Justin Smith and wife, Lori of Mountain View; two daughters, Sandra Denese Schultz and husband, Alvin of Orlando, Florida, and Jo Ann Mullins and husband, Albert, of Newport; one sister, Velda Gates and husband, Jerry of Newport; thirteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Friends may visit at the funeral home, Friday, 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following in Watson Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Daniel Smith, Cory Smith, Chad Mullins, Jerrod Smith, Kris Smith, Trent Mullins, and Noah Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Ash Smith, and Jeremy Martin.
