Condolence: I really don’t know where to start…Coach “Bubba” Parnell is very special to me. Early on as a young boy I met coach at the track field one day watching the athletes practice. It seems from that day on we had a very close relationship. That summer I became bay boy for the American Legion baseball team. In the years to come he was a true leader to me. Discipline when I needed and love to follow. I cannot express how much I learned from Coach Parnell. Many years of enjoying “many” ballgames as we competed with other ball teams around the state in several sports. I have to say that our senior high school basketball team has a special place in my heart. We shared a great passion for the game and coach supported us all the way!
As I am very sad to hear of his passing, my heart rejoices as I know his soul is at peace!
God bless and I will always have a special place in my heart for you!

Condolence: I’ll always remember the first time I met Bubba. I was president of the PTA at Castleberry Elem. and he was the new principal. The first day of school, I got my three children settled in, then stopped in to welcome him to our school and offer him the services of the PTA, should he need us. We were friends from that moment on! He was special and will be sorely missed!!

Condolence: My heart is so heavy right now. Mr.Parnell is an icon in Newport school systems. At Castleberry in 5th grade when I fainted on stage he picked me up & ran me across the street to Harris Hospital. Talk about causing a little girl to have a crush!! Then in Senior High he gave me a paddling to remember!! Then later in life, my son got to learn 1st hand that paddling experience when Mr.Parnell was his Principal at Swifton. He was 1 of a kind & mentored more lives than 1 could count. Thank you Mr.Parnelll for being an amazing influence on me & my children. It was an honor to have you bring our education experience full circle in my family. Fly high sir. You were the best! My love & prayers go out to family.

Condolence: Bubba gave me my first shot as an new educator in 1994 and was not only a great principal to work under but became an amazing friend as well. The times we spent together hunting, fishing and just hanging out at his cabin will always be some of the favorite memories of my entire life. You were one of a kind Bubba, and you will be missed by many who were fortunate to have you as a mentor and a friend. Rest in peace Bubba Jack, and thank you for the influence you had on my life.

Condolence: Sorry to hear the passing of Coach Parnell. He was one of those who had a great positive influence on me and many others during my school years at Newport, as one of my baseball and football coaches and golf coach, as well as an educator/administrator. He was always genuinely interested in my kids
while they were in Newport and he will be missed. There are many great stories I have shared over the years about Coach Parnell with family and friends. RIP Coach Parnell
