Obituary for Joann Johnson McCully

Ms. Joann Johnson McCully of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on August 17, 2018, at the age of 73. She was born January 9, 1945, in Pennington, the daughter of Oscar and Opal (Cruse) Johnson.

Joann was a 1962 graduate of Newport High School. She had worked as a real estate broker for Prince Realty from 1975 to 1979. After moving back to Newport she worked as a secretary and then as manager of the Newport Country Club for eighteen years. She then took a job in Little Rock for Met Life where she worked in customer service. She was transferred to Tulsa where she worked for several years. Joann moved back to Little Rock to work with her sons at their car dealership. She then spent the next twelve years working until her retirement as an independent insurance agent.

Joann enjoyed spending time with her friends and watching movies. Her greatest love was her family. Joann especially enjoyed being Nana to her seven grandchildren. She made sure her boys had everything they needed or wanted. Joann was known for her beautiful smile, quick wit and big personality. She will be sorely missed by her loving family, her many friends, and her church family. Joann was a devoted member of the Holden Avenue Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Eugene Johnson; two sisters, Peggy Couch and Brenda Dawson; and one nephew, Jeff Dawson.

Joann is survived by two sons, Brian Prince and wife, Deanna, of Newport, and Shane Prince of Newport; seven grandchildren, Taylor Prince, Austin Prince, Conner Prince, Chase Prince, Allie Prince, Maylie Bain, and Maty Bain; many nieces and nephews she loved dearly; and a lifetime of friends.

Friends may visit at the funeral home, Monday, August 20, 2018, beginning at 1:30 p.m. with Memorial service to begin at 2:30 at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Ryan Wilson officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be the CNA and nursing staff of Lindley Healthcare.

Memorials may be made to the Caring Sisters at the Holden Avenue Church of Christ, 1200 Holden Avenue, Newport, Arkansas 72112.
