Obituary for Joe Marion Exum

Joe Marion Exum, 78, of Harrisburg departed this life on Sunday ~ October 23, 2022 at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was born January 11, 1944 in Harrisburg to the late Dell M. and Violet Virginia (Rolland) Exum. Joe was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church in Harrisburg. Joe loved going to church. He served in the Arkansas National Guard. He was retired. Joe dedicated most of his life working for the city of Harrisburg alongside his father, Dell and his brother, Sonny. Joe also spent years as a volunteer firefighter for the city of Harrisburg. Joe was a people person who enjoyed helping others and watching wrestling (and you wouldn’t dare try to tell him it was fake!). He loved spending time with his brother Sonny. Joe’s pride and joy was his daughter, Tammy Jo and his granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren. He was a very kind man with a big heart that never met a stranger. He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Jo Exum-Henry of Harrisburg, step-son, Ronnie “Joey” Gann of Harrisburg, granddaughter, Hillary Davis of Jonesboro, 2 great-grandchildren: Samuel (Sam) and Annah Katherine Davis also of Jonesboro. He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Judy (Green) Exum, Tammy’s mother, and second wife, Elizabeth Doris Exum, a son, Gary Don McIllwain, and a great grandson, Reed Davis, 2 brothers: Sonny and Roger Exum, and one sister, Virginia Cole. The family will receive visitors Wednesday, October 26 at Jackson’s Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00 ~ 8:00 P. M. Funeral Services will be Thursday October 27 at 2:00 P. M. Bro John Medlock will be officiating. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to Lebanon Baptist Church 13996 Hwy 14 East Harrisburg, Arkansas. Arrangements are by Jackson’s Funeral Home.
