Obituary for Joe Burns Russell Sr.

Joe Burns  Russell Sr.
Joe Burns Russell Sr., 87, of Harrisburg, Arkansas passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2021. He was born September 12, 1933, in Arkansas in the Long Creek Community to the late Rudy “RC” and Joanna Hargis Russell. Joe and his family spent several years living in the Weiner area. He worked for Robert’s Rice Mill, Weiner Plumbing Company, and the City of Weiner before joining the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union #239 out of Odessa, Texas. From that point on, Joe traveled all over the U. S. working construction with Union #239, Union #155 of Little Rock, and Union #65 of Memphis until January of 1987. He then moved back permanently and began working with Adams&Cooper Plumbing until his retirement in 2013 at the age of 80. He was an excellent welder, even with one eye, and he took great pride in his workmanship. Joe was a past master of the Cardinal Lodge # 677 of Weiner and a member for over 50 years; he was also a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He loved his wife, his family, and his little slice of heaven he called his home at snake acres. Joe enjoyed playing his French horn, fishing, hunting, riding his golf cart, and telling tall tales. He never met a stranger, and he was never shy to share his opinion. He was preceded in death by his parents: Rudy and Joanna Russell, his brothers: Robert, Bill, Eugene, James, and Tilman Russell, his sons: Joe B. Russell Jr. and Ralph C. Russell, his daughter, Barbara “Christine” Green his grandson, Anthony “Tony” Russell, and son-in-law, David Dew. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Barbara Ann Chaplain Russell of Harrisburg, Arkansas, two sisters: Larue Wilson of Lewisville, Texas and Eva Metts of Tullahoma, Tennessee, one daughter, Joyce Ann Russell-Dew of Jonesboro, Arkansas, one son-in-law, Rondal Green and wife Diana of Huffman, Texas, three grandchildren -his Sugar Girls- Christy Harris and husband Ryan of Brookland, Shelly Anderson and husband Jeff of Jonesboro, and Amy Cobbley and husband Ken of Huffman, Texas, three grandsons: Adam Russell and wife Kate of Joliet, Illinois, Wesley Russell , and Josh Russell of Paducah, Kentucky, and seven great-grandchildren: Tanner, Aynabeth, Kayla, Jackson, Nathan, Caleb, and Dawson. A visitation will be held Saturday, May 8, 2021 from 9:30 until 10:30 at Jackson’s Funeral Home in Harrisburg, Arkansas. A Graveside Service will immediately follow at 11:00 A.
