Obituary for Julie Pharis

Mrs. Julie Kathleen (Phillips) Pharis of Maumelle, Arkansas, departed this life on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at the age of 75. She was born September 6, 1946 in Newport, the daughter of Harold and Florence (Langston) Phillips.

Mrs. Pharis was a 1964 graduate of Newport High School, and attended Draughon’s Business School of Memphis. On September 4, 1964, Miss Julie Phillips was wed to Mr. Donald R. Pharis, and they spent nearly 58 years raising their family and building a life together.

Mrs. Pharis was a news writer for several newspapers around the state, ending her career in the accounting office of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. She was an avid reader and writer, and loved to travel and go on cruises.

Her greatest joy in life came from time spent with her family, and she especially doted on her grandchildren.

Mrs. Pharis was a member of the England Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, who raised her, Hattie Nanny Phillips; and her parents.

Mrs. Paris is survived by her husband of 57 years, Donald R. Pharis of the home; one son, Donald R. Pharis, II of Monticello, Arkansas; one daughter, Amy Pharis Cunningham and husband, Bradley of Danville, Illinois; three grandchildren, Jarrett Joyner and wife, Carrie, of Little Rock, Jordan DeZeeuw and husband, Evan of Portland, Oregon, and Jett Villanueva of Danville, Illinois; three great-grandchildren, Motley, Kai, and Melody; three brothers, Hal Phillips and wife, Kathy of Montrose, Michigan, Eddie Phillips and wife, Karen of Flushing, Michigan, and Donnie Phillips and wife, Beth of Swartz Creek, Michigan; one brother-in-law, Billy Pharis and wife, Diane of Fayetteville, Arkansas; one sister-in-law, Sharon Green of Sherwood, Arkansas; many nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of friends.

Graveside services are 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Pennington Cemetery with Mr. Nick Hamilton officiating.
