Obituary for Kathleen Lampton

Kathleen Lampton
Mrs. Mavis Kathleen Lampton departed this life peacefully on Wednesday December 23, 2020.
She was born on January 15, 1936 to the late James Alva Lawson & Essie Alma (Helms) Lawson.
Born in Eaton, Arkansas, the family moved in 1947 to Alicia, Arkansas where they operated Lawson’s Grocery and a small farm. Mrs. Kathleen attended High School at Hoxie. Later she moved to Newport, where she spent most of her adult life, before moving to Iuka, Mississippi, in 2018.
Mrs. Kathleen worked for many years for American Lantern before moving to Morrilton in 1977 to be a House Parent at the Southern Christian Children’s Home. Through the nursing program at ASU-Morrilton, she earned her LPN and returned to Newport to work as a nurse. She then worked just over 20 years for McNair Eye Center before retiring.
Mrs. Lampton was a member of the Holden Avenue Church of Christ for more than 30 years, being active in the prison ministry, the Monday morning ladies’ Bible class, and every other Bible class and ladies’ day that she could attend. She read her Bible every day as long as she was able. Over the past 2 ½ years, while living with her daughter, Sandra, she was a member of the Iuka Church of Christ. She was loved and supported by that church family just as she had been by her long-time church home at Holden Avenue.
She is survived by her four children: Sandra (Lance) Foster of Iuka, MS, Micki McGee of Newport, Steve (Sandy) Norris of Conway, and Phil (Nadine) Norris of Batesville.
She was known as “Granny” to her eleven grandchildren: Lori (Trent) Hill, Aaron (Cassie) Foster, Lindsey (Keith) Harris, Kasey (Kirk) Haston, Kara (Jamie) Vansandt, Leeann (Jordan) Howard, Bridget (J.C.) Johnson, Whitney Norris, Dustin (Brooke) McGee, Melina Norris, and Emily Norris. Granny, as we all call her, also has 18 great-grandchildren.
Kathleen was born into a family of 10 siblings. Having lost a brother, Jack Lawson, and two sisters, Alpha Freeman and Alvalene Mitts, she is survived by a brother, Thomas C. Lawson, and five sisters: Avis Holloway, Alta Hill, Margaret (Charles) Broadway, Linda (Phil) Carter, and Charlene (Ronnie) Clark. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at Holden Avenue Church of Christ.

Memorials can be made to Southern Christian Children's Home, 100 W. Harding Street, Morrilton, AR 72110.

Family and friends who are not able to come to the services, may go to the Jackson’s Funeral Home Facebook Page at 10:00 a.m. Monday and watch the service on Livestream.
