Obituary for Paul Revere Brown

Paul Revere Brown

On Sunday, November 20, 2022, Paul Revere Brown, III, beloved husband, passed away suddenly after returning from a treasured morning duck hunting with his friends and faithful Labrador in Newport, Arkansas.

Paul was born in 1962 in Memphis, Tennessee to Paul and Henrietta Brown, Jr. He grew up there, completed high school at Briarcrest Christian School, excelling in athletics and academics, and graduated from the University of Memphis with a degree in finance.

Throughout his college days he was a proud and active member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon
fraternity. Paul was always an outgoing and gregarious soul- a friend to everyone he met. His
life had many passions and he pursued them all to the fullest extent. Paul’s strongest lifelong
endeavors involved the outdoors. Paul grew up hunting and fishing throughout the Mid-south
with his dad, eventually becoming a hunting and fishing guide for the Redfish Lodge in
Rockport, Texas- where he met and married his bride, Dawn Tumlinson Brown. Paul also had a
career in competitive sporting clays shooting and cofounded the Wild Hare line of shooting
gear. Throughout his life, Paul was captivated by waterfowl- pursuing ducks and geese along
the Central and Mississippi Flyways from Texas to Arkansas to the Canadian prairie. He was an
avid duck caller- winning the title of Texas State Duck Calling Champion and competing in the

World Duck Calling Championship Contest in Stuttgart, Arkansas. He enjoyed international fly-
fishing excursions- on one trip to Baja California Sur, Mexico, he caught a world record Pacific

crevalle jack on 16 pound tippet. Paul was a gifted writer and poet, where in the written word
he expressed a lifelong love letter to the ducks, particularly in the flooded timber of Waters
Bottoms, Arkansas- a sacred place he spent decades hunting with his dad. He was truly a
well-rounded southern gentleman- living and loving the sporting life- shooting, waterfowling,
fishing, good dogs, great books, SEC football, and Memphis BBQ- enjoying all with his wife,
family, and friends.

In their years together, Paul and his wife raised registered Black Angus Cattle, Rambouillet
sheep and Angora goats- ultimately adding a wool mill to the operation and becoming
producers, processors, buyers and sellers of wool and mohair in Texas. Paul became a
certified wool classer with the American Sheep Industry Association and was proud to be a
Regional Director with the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association. He loved the sheep and
goat industry and its people- always noting the kindness and generosity exhibited while faced
with the hard work and challenges of a life in agriculture. As an acknowledgment of his
experiences, Paul was inspired to become a writer and reciter of cowboy poetry. He excelled in
this arena, winning a belt buckle in competition at the National Cowboy Poetry Rodeo. Paul
was known as the “camo cowboy” poet- reciting poems at the local feed cooperative and
beyond. His catch phrase was “live life poetic”- which he did everyday with a smile.
Paul leaves behind his wife of 18 years, Dawn; sister, Bebe Ray; brother and sister-in-law,
Patrick and Jane Tumlinson; nieces, Kasey Tumlinson and Jenny Ray; nephew, Dean
Tumlinson; great-nephew, Noah Austin; and mother-in-law, Virginia Tumlinson. Paul also leaves
behind his steadfast hunting partner, his dog, Boss.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Doc Brown and Henrietta Brown; and brother-in-law
Roger Ray.

Family and friends will gather on Saturday, December 17, 2022, ayat 1:30 pm for a memorial held
at Waters Bottoms, Newport, Arkansas. Donations can be made to waterfowl conservation in
memory of Paul.
