Obituary for Virginia Odom

Virginia  Odom
Mrs. Virginia Dale (McCoy) Odom of Newport, Arkansas, departed this life on Friday, December 18, 2020, at the age of 85. She was born January 26, 1935, in Grubbs, Arkansas, the daughter of Barney and Ollie (Woodman) McCoy.
Mrs. Odom grew up in the Grubbs area with many cousins and friends and those bonds and closeness lasted a lifetime. She was a 1953 graduate of Grubbs High School.
Miss Virginia McCoy married Mr. Maurice Odom on July 4,1954, in Batesville. The couple made their home in Newport and over their 59 years of marriage, they worked side-by-side, raised 4 children, enjoyed 8 grandchildren and their great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Odom worked during the 60’s and 70’s for AP&L, and later worked alongside her husband at Odom’s G.E Appliance and Furniture. Many will fondly remember spending countless hours under the supervision of Mr. and Mrs. Odom at Odom’s Skating Rink in Newport. For over 40 plus years, she assisted with Odom’s Auctions.
Mrs. Odom was a member of the Church of Christ and attended church at both Cherokee Street and Holden Avenue.
Mrs. Odom’s greatest love and enjoyment in life was her family and she treasured every minute with them. Mrs. Odom delighted in working word search and jigsaw puzzles and playing computer games. She was an avid fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball.
Mrs. Odom will forever be remembered for her kind and giving spirit and her beautiful smile. She was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. Mrs. Odom found the good in everyone and never spoke ill of anyone. Her family will fondly remember her sneaky ways which she inherited from her mother.
Mrs. Odom was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Maurice Odom on December 20, 2013; three sisters, Nadine Humphreys, Berneva London, and Ella (Pete) Williamson; and one brother, A. J. McCoy.
She is survived by three sons, Marvin Dale Odom of Newport, Michael David Odom and wife, Kathy, of Newport, and Dr. Marcus Dean Odom and wife, Shannon, of Carbondale, IL; one daughter, Jennifer Renee Loftin and husband, Melvin, of Newport; one brother, Bobby McCoy; eight grandchildren, David Odom, Amy Odom, Josh Loftin, Amber Clark, Lindsey Loftin, Derek Odom, Marcus Odom, Jr., and Nicole Odom; thirteen great-grandchildren, Abreanna Odom, Caton Nation, Kiland Ellis, Braelyn Odom, Trinity Odom, Shaun Friar, Jeremy “Bubba” Odom, Jack Loftin, Lexi Loftin, Jillian Odom, Addi Odom, Henry Crosslin, and Chase Loftin; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and a lifetime of friends.
Private services will be held.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Mike Odom, Dr. Mark Odom, Josh Loftin, Melvin Loftin, David Odom, and Amber Clark.
