Obituary for Glenda J. Wixson

Glenda J.  Wixson
Mrs. Glenda J. (Owen) Wixson, 81 of Harrisburg, Arkansas departed this life May 8, 2023 at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was born December 1, 1941 in Waldenburg, Arkansas. Glenda was the daughter of James Henry Owen and Jaunita Grace (Torreyson) Frasier. She married her high school sweetheart, Johnny M. Wixson in 1961 and enjoyed fifty-nine years of marriage before his passing on September 18, 2020. Glenda went to grade school and high school at Weiner, Arkansas where she enjoyed playing basketball (half court). She continued her education at Arkansas State College where she completed her basics. Glenda worked as a homemaker in her early years and did security work in her later years. She was a member of the Extension Homemakers Club (Fisher and Poinsett County). Glenda enjoyed many years of taking care of children, elderly, and family. She loved cooking, sewing (especially for the grandchildren) and transporting ball players and cheerleaders around in the big red “cardinal” van. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, reading, sewing, bowling, square dancing, clogging, and watching her beloved St Louis Cardinals play baseball. She was of the Baptist faith having been a part of the Fisher Baptist Church, Strawfloor Baptist Church and Huntington Church. At Fisher Baptist church she loved helping with the 3 and 4 year old Sunday School class, Vacation Bible School, and cooking for her church family. At Huntington Church she was known as the Grandmother of the church, the one who always had snacks available to keep the little ones entertained during church. Glenda was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny M. Wixson, her parents: James (Evelyn) Owen, Grace (Jack) Frasier and grandmother, Ethyl Mead Torreyson, who helped raise her, two sisters: Tiresa (Frasier) Smith, and Linda (Owen) Walker, and one brother, Ralph Owen. She is survived by two sons: Jon Kevin (Tammy) Wixson of Maynard, Arkansas and Kenneth (Priscilla) Wixson of Harrisburg, one daughter, Shana (Greg) Reddmann of Harrisburg, eleven grandchildren: Brittany (Ryan) Gartner, Amanda (Michael) Trusty, Morgan (Rhett) Turner, Cale (Hunter) Reddmann, Kenley (Austin) Vanvalkenburg, Ashton (Dylan) Eberhard, Ansley Wixson (Avery Felts), Abby Wixson, Kenneth (Amy) Bounds, Scott (Katie) Bounds, and Kayla Bounds. Glenda is survived by 18 great-grandchildren: Sadie and Mia Mitchell, Maisyn Turner, Neely and Rowan Reddmann, Elliott and Harrison Gartner, Noah and Danielle Goree, Tyler, Issac, and Livi Bounds, Haley Evans, Aria Bounds, Madsion Mayland, Jaxson Saylors, Creed and Lawson Eberhard. She is also survived by three sisters: Diane Howard, Carol Jean Bingham, Sharon Brown and one brother-in-law, Lindell Smith. Visitation will be Monday, May 15, 2023 at Jackson’s Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 P. M. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Fisher Cemetery in Fisher, Arkansas with brother Don Martin conducting the service. Interment will follow. These men will be honored to serve as active pallbearers: Cale Reddmann, Dylan Eberhard, Rhett Turner, Austin Vanvalkenburg, Avery Felts, and Kevin Mclllwain. Honorary pallbearers will be Lindell Smith and Scooter Forrester. Memorials may be sent to the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas, Arrangements are by Jackson’s Funeral Home in Harrisburg, Arkansas.
