Obituary for Nellie Shumate

Nellie  Shumate
Mrs. Nellie (Lawson) Shumate of Cabot, Arkansas, formerly of Weldon, departed this life on Friday, April 7, 2023, at the age of ninety. She was born October 3, 1932, in Stuttgart the daughter of Tommy and Ellen Jessie (Grandgeorge) Lawson.
Mrs. Shumate was a graduate of Stuttgart High School. She helped run Shumate Farms with her husband. Mrs. Shumate enjoyed drinking coffee with her neighbors and cooking for her family. They especially loved her coconut pies. She dearly adored her family they were the most important thing to her. Mrs. Shumate loved magnolia trees and soft rain. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She taught young children Sunday School for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Arthur Shumate; one son, Gary Shumate: two brothers, Charles Edwards Lawson and Robert Lee Lawson.
Mrs. Shumate is survived by one son, Dale Shumate; one daughter, Barbara Shumate; one brother, Clarence Lawson and wife, Gladys; six grandchildren, Stacy Allen, Holly Harvey, Ashley Driggers, Jud Shumate, Gary Shumate, and Katlin Bridgeman; twelve great grandchildren, Peyton Driggers, Gavin Shumate, Bennett Allen, Preslee Driggers, Audrey Allen, Lily Shumate, Weldon Driggers, Lawson James Harvey, Grayson Shumate, Daxton Shumate, Barrett Driggers, and Savannah Grace Driggers.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Jud Shumate, Jimmy Driggers, Gary Shumate, Joey DuPree, Buddy Penix, and Leslie Harvey. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Shumate, Scott Shumate, and Clarence Lawson.
Friends may visit at the funeral home, Monday 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Del Medlin officiating.
